Latest ASGLB data

The ASGLB data return is completed by every local authority, voluntary adoption agency, and regional adoption agency in England on a quarterly basis.

The latest publicly available data covers the period up to 31 March 2019. Please click on the links below to download the Business Intelligence reports and Local Level ASGLB data files.

The latest key headlines are:

  • The number of children waiting has decreased. There were 2800 children waiting with a placement order not yet placed with an adoptive family. This is a decrease of 4.4% (130n) from 31 December 2018 when there were 2930 children waiting.
  • The number of new placement order granted continues to fall. There were 3700 new placement orders in 2018/19. This is a decrease of 8% (310n) from 2017/18 when there were 4010 placement orders granted.
  • The number of registrations to become an adopter is increasing. There were 4000 registrations in 2018/19; an increase of 11% (400n) from 2017/18 when there were 3600.
  • The number of families approved for adoption has decreased. There were 2850 families approved for adoption in 2018/19. This is a decrease of 1% (40n) from 2017/18 when there were 2980.
