Reema Sodha – Senior Data & Performance Analyst

Where did you work before Coram-i and how long have been here?

I used to work as a Transport Modeller at the engineering consultancy Mott MacDonald but made the move to Coram-i back in November 2019.

Tell us about your job and what it involves?

I work as part of the Adoption & Special Guardianship Leadership Board Secretariat, as a Senior Data & Performance Analyst. Day-to-day, I ensure the smooth running of the quarterly data collection, where data is collected on adoption and special guardianship from agencies across England. I’m also responsible for dealing with data-related queries coming in from stakeholders regarding the quarterly data collection. On a more ad-hoc basis, I also undertake analysis on this data and lead on data cleansing tasks.

What was it that made you want to join the team?

I always wanted a role where I was using my skills and knowledge for good. So, when I came across this opportunity at Coram-i, I couldn’t not apply. Then, when I felt so welcomed by Kevin and Louise (Kevin Yong, Managing Director & Louise Jelks, ASGLB Data Lead) at my interview, I hoped that I had done enough to be offered the job. I was so ecstatic when I found out that I had!

What’s the best bit of your job?

I am a problem solver through and through! So, I particularly love the troubleshooting that comes with having data collection templates with validation checks that run via VBA (the Excel programming language). I also love streamlining processes and making them more efficient by automating them using the Python programming language.

And the most challenging?

As we collect over 200 data returns every quarter, it can be challenging to ensure that all are received as clean as possible by the submission deadlines. This part of my role involves quite a bit of professional nagging, which I don’t like but it has to be done to ensure our processes do not unnecessarily overrun and delay the cycle.

What’s the piece of work you’re most proud of?

When work deadlines were pushed back at the start of the pandemic, I had the time to convert processes that were formerly done in VBA to Python, which has reduced the time taken to do these processes by at least 3 times – an achievement that has helped us to consistently commission the data collections a week early since!

Finally – away from work – what’s at the top of your bucket list?

As an avid traveller, I would love to get back out and start travelling again after being homebound due to Covid-19. My absolute dream would be to work and travel around New Zealand with my soon-to-be husband for a year or two.
